I’m on a mission to change the mindset of marketing our businesses for the better. Not *just* for our own successes (whatever that looks like for you) but for the good of our mental health in the process.
I’m personally tired of seeing other marketing professionals put out the same content, the same ‘lead generators’, anti-climax ‘clickbait’ and misleading Facebook ads. Free workshops where the first 30 minutes is a long winded sales pitch. Or 5 day challenges that scream ‘authenticity fail’.
In 2004 I started my career working for some of the world’s most influential magazine and newspaper brands. Back then there wasn’t the social media world that we all know today. There wasn’t as much opportunity for self comparison and imposter syndrome. There wasn’t the unhealthy mindset of desperately chasing followers and ‘likes’.
However, there WAS an unapologetic, genuine and strategic way to grow and succeed without playing games and without chasing for similar sorts of ‘instafame’. The numerous brands I worked with enjoyed success without the need for social media or any kind of unauthentic noise or popularity contests.
Times have changed, social media is a small business need and I really do LOVE it when it’s used in a healthy way, (a good job when 70% of my client work is social media management – and they’re amazing clients I’m aligned with – phew!). Combined with other marketing tactics, social media can be so powerful and rewarding.
I digress…
Since becoming my own boss I have endured, like you, many ups and downs, realisations and so many doses of perspective which have been enhanced by the effects of the pandemic. Grief, homeschooling, juggling many balls, feeling cramped, missing everyone and everything – combined with the pandemic feelings of fear, overwhelm and anxiety. My own need for a mindset shift within the marketing landscape is now enforced and has finally kicked me hard enough to launch my voice (here) and my mission to make marketing a healthier and happier process whilst allowing space to add your touch of sparkle to your amazing idea and business.
Free up energy for better things…
When you are managing your marketing you can fall in to traps of comparing yourself to others and doubting yourself and your abilities. You might feel sad and frustrated when time or energy isn’t available to do the tasks you want to tick off. You might be feeling anxious about the future of your business amongst everything else the pandemic has done to us all physically, mentally and emotionally. I’m with you, I relate to all of this.
For years I’ve witnessed many talented individuals chase for that social media noise and take part in games to increase their own popularity and engagement stats. They lose sight of why they are here in the first place and we fall out of love with the ‘gram.
Having a strategy, a growth plan, a direction for success is wonderful yes, but having a healthy and mindful relationship with marketing and growing your business (not just on social media) will not only enhance your brand in a positive way, but will allow you and your values to stay true and authentic.
When we switch off from the social media “noise” (lurking and/or joining in) and other desperate-like tactics, we free up space and energy to remember the bigger picture. When we stay in tune with our personal and professional values, our quality marketing efforts can really go a long way. You don’t have to show up three times a day or be on every social media platform to be successful.
Why now?
FACT: My business and marketing reach has grown since I cared less about showing up as much on social media, unfollowing accounts that didn’t inspire or make me feel good about myself and prioritising other marketing tactics. Less content of higher quality far outweighs more content of less quality. No hidden secrets or agendas, just a kinder and more compassionate way to running my business, my relationships and my marketing. However, every business is unique and requires an individual strategy, content plan and brand personality (these are things I can help with you FYI).
Marketing shouldn’t be daunting or anxiety-inducing. Marketing shouldn’t be too time consuming. Marketing can be enjoyable and successful when approached with a mindful attitude. I’m here to help with all of that and more.
Find a better balance…
Going out ‘all guns blazing’ can be exhausting and you’re likely going to crash and burn, or be in a position where it’s a bigger fight for attention, which in itself becomes a dangerous path for this healthy marketing mindset I’m banging on about.
OR, you might find you rarely show up on social media, the fear gets to you, you don’t know if you can keep up, you’re struggling to find the desire and motivation because of how social media, PR and everything else has been presented to you so far…
I genuinely care…
YOU have a place here, YOUR BUSINESS has a seat at this table, YOU can survive and thrive and YOU can enjoy marketing your business. YOU can show up when you want, YOU can be positive about the future and most important of all, YOU matter. With more perspective presenting itself on a daily basis, it’s important, more than ever that we’re kind to our thoughts, to our own pressures and objectives, and to our own deadlines.
We coaches collectively put out a lot of ‘free’ content, and not all of it is useful to you. Not all of it gets seen either (sigh), so through my channels and email newsletter, I can bring you the reassuring and nurturing content to help you thrive, add that sparkle to your marketing, inspire compassion-led business development and to help you step away from anything that doesn’t feel right.
I won’t spam you on a regular basis, because that isn’t a mindful approach. I’ll only reach out when I have useful content you will benefit from (that is a mindful approach).
To summarise… (if you’re still here)
If we collectively work together more in a mindful way, focus on the tasks at hand and prioritise our personal and professional wellbeing, this will all positively shine through. It will shift our marketing to a much more genuine offering and it opens up more mental and physical space for you to do what you do best. This in turns sees better results, more opportunity and allows you to sparkle (technical term).
Allowing your audiences to see the real you and to enjoy what you put out there is what will encourage growth, more followers and customers, better reputation and word of mouth, more collaborations and opportunity, and thus more income.
Have you noticed that I haven’t really “sold” you anything specific here? Again, that’s a deliberate ‘mindful marketing’ move because the purpose of this mission statement is to simply share my mission with you.
